The new Pope, formerly Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who took the simple name of Pope Francis to honour St Francis of Assissi, known for his love of nature and animals, takes charge of a 1.2 billion member Church. Pope brings with him lots of positive energy that is reassuring and heartening for the followers.
Pope Francis in his speech at Vatican Square talked about God's power to forgive. Not surprisingly, many had tears in their eyes by the time he finished his speech. He said the core message of God is that of mercy. He said God has an unfathomable capacity to pardon. |
Rev. Pope noted that people are often harder on each other than God is toward sinners. He also shook hands with people and planted kisses on babies. He was so informal that people even dared to grip the Pope by the shoulder, something unheard of before.
When children shouted his name Francesco, Francesco in Italian, he patted a little boy on the head, asking, “Are you a good boy?” When the child nodded, he quipped, “Are you sure?” Such delighting and heart warming character and charisma of our new pope - Humble Yet Powerful!
Pope Francis mission of the church is to serve the poor. He further explained that it was the reason why he had chosen to take the name Francis after a saint who though born rich, lived amongst and served the poor. |
