Sushila Devi Bhutani was born in the 1920s , in the prestigious family of Rai Sahib Iswar Das Mehta . Being the youngest of the siblings, she held a  strong bond with her nieces and nephews too, some of whom were close to her age. She was fondly called Sheela Behenji by most of them.

Married to Sh. Krishan Kumar Bhutani, who was a Civilian Officer in the Army Service Corps, she was immaculate in all the hospitality and socializing, that was the norm.

Having had the privilege to education even in those times, she was comfortable in her zone and adjusted to the changing times very gracefully.

Religious and pious, but never blindly orthodox , she had a wonderful way of handling things. She inculcated these habits in her children too.

Fond of kirtans and bhajans, she enjoyed organizing and attending these gatherings. She had a sweet voice and often sang bhajans.  Infact, just a year before she passed away, she got a compiled version of her favourite bhajans published.

Young or old, she maintained a cordial relationship with all the members in the family. Her maturity , tolerance and sweet nature was a great bonding and bridging factor. It may not be out of place to mention that she showered her love and generosity unconditionally. Her charming nature is something that is remembered by one and all.
