Nurture the creative abilities in a child, encourage him or her to create and we have a citizen who matures into someone confident, someone who contributes to civilization. Very often children are afraid to explore because of fear of failure and the same fear also haunts their parents.
However, when parents encourage and motivate them to go ahead and take the step forward, the seed of creativity germinates. Creativity is the ultimate expression of humanity. When you feel proud of your child's achievement, you will look back and be glad you created the right atmosphere for him. “An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail.”, said Edwin Land. It is so easy to go the “Normal” traditional route.
One does not have to tax one's brains. Routine is fine and people have spent their entire lives this way.
Children are blessed with creativity and inborn desire to explore and find out things new but such attitudes are often suppressed. Resourcefulness is discouraged. The end result is a mundane life. On the other hand we have high achievers, innovators, thinkers and inventors whose passion for resourcefulness and for going off the beaten path have been encouraged in the family. A family is the core, the place where a child starts his learning and explorations. Nurture the creative abilities in a child, encourage him or her to create and we have a citizen who matures into someone confident, someone who contributes to civilization.

How would a family encourage creativity and build a creative atmosphere in a family? The ways are simple and easy to adapt.
Reduce the use of toys and encourage children to use their imagination to create toys or give them kits.
Encourage children to have a lot of curiosity about everything they come across and to learn everything they can. |
Be involved with a kid—contribute, give suggestions, assess, give pointers, appreciate and help him put into practice what he visualized, if possible.
Never ever belittle children for their ideas or thoughts or make them feel ashamed. This kills off whatever exploratory ideas they may have.
Children will love it when you appeal to their imagination and let them think independently and then come up with solutions. They like to be involved and part of the action: let them do it.
Parents can be the fount of inspiration and motivation to keep the enthusiasm of children fuelled and to help them use their mind creatively.
Negative comments can dampen enthusiasm but active and positive involvement make the child think and take risks to come up with creative ideas. And when they do something creative, never lack in showering praises and lead them on to the next level. Children like to be appreciated and respected.
It does help if parents can find out in which direction their child's talent lies and gently steer him to explore those areas for the best results. Often parents push their unfulfilled aspirations and hopes on children and in the process suppress creativity.
In the same way, comparisons can kill. Parents often resort to sibling comparison to point out mistakes and the negative effects are huge. Treasure each child as unique and nurture his plus points. He will open up and find his way, knowing you are there to support him.
The day when he does something unique and you feel proud of him, you will know you have done the right thing in having built a creative atmosphere in your family.

Why dont we let our children grow according to their early indications?
Why dont do we always want to kill their curiosity?
Curiosity is the very basis of learning...
Millions saw the apple fall, only newton asked - why?
