Story of Faith by Laverne W. Hall
The fields were parched and brown from lack of rain, and the crops lay wilting from thirst. People were anxious and irritable as they searched the sky for any sign of relief. Days turned into arid weeks. No rain came.
The ministers of the local churches called for an hour of prayer on the town square the following Saturday. They requested that everyone bring an object of faith for inspiration. At high noon on the appointed Saturday the townspeople turned out for mass prayer filling the square with anxious faces and hopeful hearts. The ministers were touched to see the variety of objects clutched in prayerful hands - holy books, crosses, rosaries.
When the hour ended, as if on magical command, a soft rain began to fall. Cheers swept the crowd as they held their treasured objects high in gratitude and praise. From the middle of the crowd one faith symbol seemed to overshadow all the others: A small nine-year-old child had brought an umbrella.

Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. He didn't have to hear about all the men she could have married, and she didn't have to hear about the way his mother cooked.

QUIZ: HAND SHAKES!!!
Six people attended a party. If all guests shook hand with everyone else (No pair shook hands more than once), Can you calculate how many handshaking events took place?
----------------------------------------------------
One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise your spirits,
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you!

Whenever I'm disappointed with my spot in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was trying out for a part in a school play. His mother told me that he'd set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen. On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. “Guess what Mom," he shouted, and then said those words that will remain a lesson to me: “I've been chosen to clap and cheer."

This is a story about a soldier who returned home from War. He phoned his parents once he arrived in San Francisco. Mom, Dad. I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me. “Sure," they replied, “We'd love to meet him."
“There's something you should know", the son continued, “He was hurt pretty bad in the war. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and a leg. He has no where to go, and I want him to come and live with us."
“I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can find a place for him." “No! Mom, Dad, I want him to live with us." “Son," said the father, “You don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own."
At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him!
A few days later, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son.
They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.

----------------------------------------------------The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered:
“Man. because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

A smile costs nothing, but gives much!
It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give.
It takes a moment,
but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor,
but that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home,
fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
A smile brings rest to the weary,
cheer to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought,
begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone, until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile;
Give them one of yours,
as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give. |
