“Fauna Police” is a force of unselfish volunteers, who have come together to work for animal rights. Led by a young animal right activist - Mr. Abhinav Srihan, “Fauna Police” works on 3 fold strategy: (1) To rescue and rehabilitate injured or illegally caged animals and birds; (2) Expose wild life trafficking; and (3) Community training on animal rights.

When asked what are their proudest achievements, Abhinav replied, “‘Nander Project’ is our proudest achievement, where we were able to save about 1000 donkeys. We also exposed three big networks of wild life trade in Hyderabad, Lucknow and Delhi.” He sadly adds, “Wild life trade is banned in India but unfortunately still there exists - many markets!”

Abhinav recalls, “My love for animals and birds started in my childhood, with an aviary at home...”. Since then people started asking me about how to take care of their birds and pets… With time, a network of like-minded people was developed. To make our efforts more concrete and structured, we formed a team, an NGO and named it - Fauna Police!".

Abhinav complains that, “Issues related to big animals like Tigers and Elephants get media focus but small little birds are overlooked. Today, many birds are endangered, they are on the verge of extinction…. Situation is very serious and We all must help them!”

When asked if Abhinav was a vegetarian, he replied, “I am a strict vegan! In fact, I do not consume milk or any dairy products. I think we should leave cow's milk for calves only." He further added, “Cows and Buffaloes also undergo various tortures in ‘Milk Industry’, they are killed for Leather… It is sad that in a country where Cow is worshiped as Mother, made a religious feature - We also have butcher houses running!”

So, how does the future look like? Optimistic Abhinav replies, “I believe, when we the people can make social evils like ‘Bonded Labour’, ‘Sati Pratha’, come to an end, then why should I not be hopeful? We all must recognize that all living species, be it birds, reptiles or animals… all are necessary for our existence!”

Fauna Police requests all diligent readers of “God Bless Our Home” Magazine to keep water and food for homeless dogs, feed for birds particularly in mud/clay pots, in their localities, balconies or roof tops. If you see an atrocity against animals or bird— Do not be a mere spectator! Do not wait for some NGO or Government to take action!
Help animals! Help Birds! We are one big family on earth!

REPLY FROM FAUNA POLICE: Parrot is not a pet as per wildlife Protection Act, of India. In fact, buying, selling or keeping any Indian Wildlife caged is illegal. It can attract imprisonment and/or fine. Beyond legalities, caged life is extremely cruel and stressful to birds. Once a bird, have been in captivity for a certain duration, it becomes very difficult for them to adapt to life outside. They die a sad death, either by starvation or being preyed upon by scavengers and predators. Instead of releasing caged birds or into the wild; get them into a proper bird rescue shelter.
