From relative anonymity, Arvind Kejriwal was propelled into global limelight in the span of two years as fearless and forthright leader of “Aam Aadmi”, who dared to question corruption and bad governance that plagued India, since decades. A midget David against the Goliath of an established Indian system of governance, he dared to do what others only think about! The core of his beliefs and character emerges through three very pointed questions we asked, and he answered with his characteristic honesty.

One - Arvind ji, Do you believe in God?

Arvind> Two years back, I did not. However, the unexpected support of millions, who came out on streets, in the march against corruption inspired my soul. I believe uniting of such large numbers can only come about if it is God’s will. Call it Nature, Divine Force or Will of God... Also faith, trust and hope of common man have only increased my commitment towards a positive transformation in society. Though we are leading this movement, I know we are very small, we are mere tools in His hands. We are conscious that this is not happening because of us; it is God's blessing. Here, please permit to add...

Like every Indian, my family is as important to me, as my faith, as my belief in God. At home, I have my parents, my wife and two kids. They are the most important part of my life, they give me emotional strength, support and courage. My parents laid the foundation of what I am today.

Two - Why are you proud of India?

Arvind> I am very proud of Indians! I am very hopeful of good future of India because of Indians. Our citizens are very loving, peaceful, kind and law abiding. We have 1st class citizen but 3rd class government systems…Is it not true that everywhere else in the world, Indians are proving themselves best in the class? Then, why not in India? It is because of corruption and insensitive government systems. Despite corruption at all levels, Indians have survived and thrived. Indians, I feel, are essentially caring, helpful and motivated people with a deep sense of responsibility. The way our people have taken stand against corruption and are starting to raise their opinion in democracy, soon we shall have a corruption free India!

Three - What is Democracy?

Arvind> Democracy is a mechanism to serve people, “We the People” are at its very center. Democracy is the weapon of middle class and poor, because they are more in numbers. Democracy should not be a slave to Government or Political party!

In fact Governments should be afraid of people and not people to be afraid of democracy…Today average voter has lost interest in democracy, in fact he has stopped participating in democracy; and then democracy cannot survive!

Democracy is like a family. Each family member can voice his opinion and contribute to a family's growth and welfare. Just like we spend time with family, we must voice our opinions; and care about all of our family members. We must give time to our democracy for our India. Two years ago, there was no hope against corruption. Inspired by Gandhi Bapu, we refused to obey corruption and poor governance, and our movement made democracy alive… Today it has become people's best opportunity against corruption.
