Globalization is driving the age of migration. Migration has been a feature of human societies for many centuries. Advances in communication, transportation and technology have only driven globalization forward, allowing us to live in a world where distances between countries are no longer as significant an obstacle. Some people are drawn to new countries by “Pull" Factors, others find it difficult to remain where they are and migrate because of “Push" Factors. Some reasons why people choose to migrate, are: (1) Poverty, (2) Armed conflict, (3) Social strife,
(4) Political turmoil and (5) Economic hardships.
Countries like America, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore are attracting young talents. These countries are hyped as “Land of Opportunities". It would not be incorrect to suggest that Jews came to America for religious freedom, Italians and Asians migrate for Work and Career Opportunities, Russians to escape persecution.
Political Freedom, Religious Tolerance, Economic Stability, Better Life and Living Conditions give a combination of push and pull factors, that attracts talented young people from all countries. People from smaller towns also move to bigger metropolitan cities for similar reasons. Children of immigrants usually appreciate the benefits and opportunities that immigration has provided them, that could not have been available at home. |
‘Immigration’ can be perfect answer to many concerns: (1) Financially Secured Future, better future anticipations, higher wages and a polished lifestyle.
(2) High Standard of Living. Parents want to give their children a better life style which they themselves were not able to acquire in their life. (3) Huge range of education opportunities in top class universities, colleges and professional institutes.
(4) Soul Mate: Various people are finding the prospect of getting married in other countries quite hot.
If you are one of those who are planning to immigrate then you must also know one negative view of immigration is that citizens of the country feel that country is losing its identity. This is mainly the case in countries that have allowed a lot of immigrants, particularly when the immigrants don't make an effort to adapt to the new country. Some countries expect new immigrants to adapt to the lifestyle in their new country more than other countries do. The result is that in some countries there is a large expat population who tend to live just like they did in their old country. These are the places where the feeling of losing the national identity is most common. Specially post sept-11 tragedy, things have become very difficult.
